Out The Window

This is the view out my studio window (oh yes, I said studio). It's a nice westerly view and usually gives me fair warning of storm clouds blowing inland off the Gulf and also peeks at some lovely Florida sunsets. It also gives me a hint as to why it takes my husband so long to take his evening walk (he is the standing man leaning on the golf cart) - he apparently stops to chit-chat with his friends, neighbors and golf buddies along the way. Being such a sociable, likeable chap, he fits in very well here. And I am happy because... did I mention my STUDIO?? There will be hand-dyeing of fabric happening very very soon (waiting on my UPS boy to deliver a few supplies). Mucho fun. --cds

My New Job

It appears I am destined to be the official reptile wrangler around here. Though this little guy is not the same one that decided to sun himself on my Mom's lanai yesterday, I wasn't able to get a photo of her visitor. I was too busy raking him off the steps and back into the bushes.

He was a feisty little thing, I must admit. Despite having a head not much bigger than my thumb, he kept rearing his head and hissing at me. In my stern voice, I told him to stick that tongue back in his mouth and get back to his job of keeping us safe from lizards and crickets. He didn't seem to realize that I was rescuing him from being doused with ammonia, which was my Mom's inclination.

Of course, you realize that any reptile larger and creepier than this will find me running down the street screaming like a little girl. I can only fake bravery just so much, you know. --cds

Well, This Is Interesting

I planted what I thought was going to be white-veined caladiums in this pot, but as you can see, this is not them: In fact, I don't know what it is going to be - the bag of bulbs must have been mismarked.

I do have last year's pink caladiums unfolding in another pot. Pretty next to the impatiens.
One of the fun things about Florida container gardening is all the reseeding that occurs. These red salvia reseeded themselves from last year's batch:

(Fuzzy pictures, I know, but it's early morning and I can't focus my own eyes yet let alone the camera.)

Hibiscus continues to bloom nicely despite an attack of mutant rose aphids:

So I guess we'll just wait and see what these turn into. I suppose I could look it up now, but it's time for my toast and yoghurt. Or maybe pie and coffee.

I have zero will power. --cds

Done, Done and Done

Banners are packed and on their way to Vermont today. Quite the project! I hope to be able to see them hanging at the Foodshelf when we're in Burlington this summer.

But for now, I have some good old-fashioned mending to do. Also, a bed quilt to finish up (mine own). --cds
