Storm Prep

Not too concerned about Isaac, but prepared nonetheless.  Things could get might soggy around here, but we're not in a flood-danger area.  Wind-borne debris would be my biggest worry, like our neighbor's gas grill that he left sitting under his carport after he returned to Ontario last spring.  I may have to commandeer that sucker and stick it in our garage.

So, yeah, got food, got water, got gas and a generator and a weather radio.  And toilet paper.  We're heading to Kissimmee this afternoon for a car show and maybe ice cream, if I behave and don't complain too much.  Tomorrow we'll cover up the babies:

The Rich Are Different. Thank God.

Just a quick rant about cable television programming.  I'm not one to put my nose in the air and haughtily sniff that I never watch TV.  Ours is on a lot - actually quite often we have two going at the same time (because dead cowboy shows make me crazy as does this very odd car-makeover show that always ends with the surprised owner bursting into tears over his newly renovated GTO or whatever).  Whatever.

Anyway, back to the subject of this particular rant.  I am often awake in the pre-dawn hours and if I want to snag an hour or two more of sleep I will head to the couch and turn on the tube with the sound off - instant snooze!  So, did you know, though, that on one of those home decorating channels there is a show called Million Dollar Homes, or Million Dollar Rooms, something like that?  It is so incredibly bad in every way.  I had to turn the sound up so I could try to figure it out.  The host is an idiot, but that's beside the point.  The Million Dollar Rooms were so hideously ugly I figured it had to be a joke.  It was garish gone wild, and this toothy goon-host gushed all over the owners, most of whom looked pretty garish themselves -- tucked, plumped, dyed and bedazzled.  Sad and captivating all at once.

Just another chapter for my forthcoming book, "There Oughtta Be A Law..."  --cds

Saturday Morning Golf

James and I tootled up to Disney this morning so he could play a round on their 9-hole walking course.  It was a gorgeous day - hot, of course, in the sun but not unbearable when watching from the shade.  I took this picture because there was a hawk in the grass off to Jim's left, but it flew off while I was lining up my (photo) shot.  We also saw one turkey, one alligator and one deer.

I just walked the course with him because, you know, I will NEVER play golf.  And by the way, did you know that you shouldn't wear flip-flops on the course because all those teeny-tiny blades of cut grass stick to your legs and get all over your flops - yuck.

Also, thank you Aunti Ann for identifying my spider friend as a crab spider.  I am sad to report, however, that yesterday the spider was gone and in its place on the yellow flower sat one of those Godzilla-Grasshoppers.  I know, circle of life and all that, but would grasshoppers eat spiders?  Great.  Now I have to look THAT up - more bugs.  Why can't I have cute bunnies or baby birds in my yard?  --cds

Ugh - A Bug

Yes, yes, this is a very beautiful green spider sitting atop a lovely yellow flower along my walkway.  It's been there all day - I know it's alive because it shifts position from time to time.  So I thought I'd be all brave and, you know, FACE MY FEAR, and try to identify this thing.

Sorry.  Can't do it.  I have totally creeped myself out.  Everytime I type the word spider into Google I have to clamp a hand over my eyes before I hit Search in case a really scarey picture pops up.  What is this thing?  The legs have little hairy barbs!  All I know is that it was pretty stupid of me to Google spiders right before going to bed.  I may not sleep for a month.  --cds
