Spring!

So Florida actually has a Spring season. Who knew? Today was just barely 70 degrees. Red-winged blackbirds, robins and mockingbirds have been chirping away. And there has been a warm breeze. A very spring-like day. I'll be looking forward to days like this in future years. I imagine they are fleeting.

We're heading to the Gulf tomorrow because my Mom's friend, Mary, is visiting. We may explore Honeymoon Island State Park just off Dunedin. James and I have been there before and we thought it was a great beach. Lots of wildlife, too, along a nature trail. Armadillos, as I recall. I will restrain myself, even though I'm tempted to bring my machete. VARMINTS! --cds

I Am Pitiful.

These are the extent of my creativity this week - pin cushions. However, note that they are color coordinated as to pins. Never underestimate the calming-factor of organizing pins in a pin cushion by color or design. I once spent about two hours late one night sticking pins in a pin cushion while watching out a darkened window waiting for a bad boy son to come home. Voodoo may have been involved. Boys were hard to raise.

It's boring to keep talking about the cold weather, but I will say I have big plans to buy big containers to fill with flowers this weekend. It's supposed to be around 70 degrees again by Friday. We're patio-blocking-in a little area in the front of our house that will be filled with these containers. I'm done planting foliage plants because this is the second year they have all died. Dumb cold weather. I'll post pictures soon. --cds

Some Quilting, Some Visiting

I'm back to the moon imagery again. Can't be helped, I guess, until I use up this blue-green hand-dyed stuff. As soon as the temps get in the 70's again, I'll be dyeing some purples and oranges and reds - can't wait. I need the warm temps because I do this outside - a very messy endeavor. Last year I had blue speckled toes for several days.

This past week, my Auntie has been visiting my Mom so there has been much shopping and cooking and eating. I'm exhausted (and full). Tomorrow I'll be at the gym and fasting. --cds

Because We Are Space Geeks...

We were outside at 4:00 a.m. to watch the space shuttle launch this morning. Well, because we are two hours from Cape Canaveral, what we watched was a very bright yellow star become smaller and smaller and finally disappear into thin air. It is possible to see a bit of the fire-trail from this distance - I just wasn't able to capture it on film - I am not a very clever photographer.

With apologies to my mid-Atlantic relatives and my children in the frigid snow states, it has been cold here in Florida with temps not climbing above low 60's. The sun is warm, but the air is not. I would appreciate it, Canada, if you would close the friggin' freezer door - you're letting all the cold air out. --cds
