Picked up Ric's Picks for the month of June from the Wine Market today, plus one extra bottle. Ric chose the Syrah and Pinot Gris. I thought I'd try the Rioja because it sounded refreshing and the bottle is pretty. Oh yes, I am so experty in the wine area.
I wish I could say smart things about the wine we're trying, but I can only say that I like dry, smooth wines and can strongly recommend last month's picks; we drank the Pink Paintbrush rose' with a shrimp and pasta dish and the Firehouse Red with bowls of chili. Well, truthfully, I drank most of the wine. Jim really only likes wine if it tastes like a purple popsicle. He's a beer and hot-wings type of guy. Nothing wrong with that. --cds

Summer Vacation
We just returned from our whirlwind trip to the Northeast visiting family in Vermont, New Jersey and Maryland. It was very tough leaving this brand new family, let me tell you. We enjoyed every single moment, tho we just ran out of time to get around and visit with everyone we wanted to see. Mostly we just spent time with this wee beauty:
Babies love sleeping on a grandpa belly.
I spent the return drive along I-95 thinking about new sewing projects and eating healthier and reorganizing my closets. Guess I'd better get busy. --cds

Storm Season
Hurricane-preparedness is a hot topic here and we are taking it all very seriously, believe me. One of our elderly neighbors lived in Homestead when H. Andrew struck in 1992 and she said their home was so wind-destroyed that they literally lost everything - treasured possessions just blew away. They had evacuated safely, but her story was very sad.
I'm always taking pictures of the skies and clouds around here because they seem so different-looking from what I'm used to. Directly opposite this hot sunset, there was a thunderstorm going on somewhere near Orlando-way.
Still waiting on the grandbaby - her parents are SO ready to welcome her. --cds
